could produce a brief heavy downpour. it's tomorrow we're looking at. once again back to the west, numerous thunderstorms. you see the watches, the pink area from western pennsylvania through ohio, indiana, in through illinois, down through missouri all the way into oklahoma that's a very strong frontal boundary. what does that mean? that means we have a pretty good chance, about a 30% chance of severe thunderstorms. to the north, a moderate risk. that's a 50% chance of see severe weather, not just thunderstorms, but severe weather. i think we will see thunderstorms here, and we will see a pretty good severe weather threat. warm temperatures today, plenty of sunshine, a nice day, just a bit on the warm side. here comes that frontal boundary, this is around 5:00, around the i-95 corridor, a lot of people heading down to the nascar race. i do expect you to see

coolidge team looking for its first win. >> reporter: hey, dan, i appreciate it. i can't think of any better way than to kick off a bit of high school football. they're playing host to mckinley tech. both are winless, and hungry to get a victory. things started to change in 2010 for coolidge when science teacher natalie randolph was asked to be the head football coach. she agreed under one condition. they could change the team into a program that developed young men to win not only on the field, but also the game of life. >> i'm a teacher first, and i'm also a coach. hey, charles, what position do you play? that don't mean you have to run like a lineman. >> i teach on the field, my coaches teach on the field.

we come at it with a teaching philosophy. this is more than just football. everybody here knows that. i focus on people's sons. >> reporter: football practice here starts in the same place each and every day. the library. how much have you read, michael? this doesn't look like much more. >> reporter: it cuts into valuable time on the field, but if you ask natalie, it's a essential part of the team's success. >> knowing that coach will handle anything that needs to be handled immediately is a huge relief and great backup, knowing she takes academics even more seriously than football. >> you're not going to be an athlete for the rest of their lives. they'll have to be productive members of society.

good storm there. nothing severe. the severe weather is back to the west. we're talking about a big area from western pennsvania all the way back through portions of the st. louis area. tome that threat will move off to the east. from richmond, which has the nascar race tomorrow night, right through washington, baltimore, up think philadelphia and new york, if you're out along the i-95 cordon, you want to watch out for storms. damaging wind is the biggest threat. most likely between 4:00 and 7:00 tomorrow night. i'll break it down. the had you been of a former falls church mayor was sentenced to 22 years in prison today for crimes against young girls committed in his own house. michael gardner says he didn't molest any of the girls, but the victims' parents say they believe the girls. the sentence came down today. >> michael gardner barely

if you're thinking about heading out, i don't expect to see any rain down there. it will be warm and humid to start. by the middle of the game it will be very comfortable. that's really it. that's what we talked about yesterday, the best chance along the mountains here, then back down to the south. just to the north of you, a few areas of lightning associated with it, too. tomorrow, heads up for everybody, because we have a chance, maybe a severe weather outbreak here along the mid-atlantic states and also towards portions of the mid eve east. what that means is we'll see strong thunderstorms, but we have a 30% chance of seeing severe. in this red area, that's a 50% chance, so very good chance of severe weather between philadelphia and new york. if you're driving up that way, be on the lookout.

the biggest thing we're going to see is severe winds upwards of 50, 60, maybe 70 miles an hour, down towards nats park, no problem, as they take on the marlins, 85 degrees at gametime, looking good, warm and a bit on the humid side. i do think things will be getting more comfortable as we move on through the night. look at the overnight lows. a nice weekend in the mountains, again you are going to see that potential for severe storms just about everywhere, but pretty request saturday, and then sunday looking great everywhere. high temperatures right around where they are today, in the upper 80s to around 90, and once again we're talking about that severe weather threat. as we look toward the next couple days, 87 on your said, and then just some fantastic weather all next week.

a maryland state trooper was nearly killed, because -- this dash cam video shows a trooper being side swiped. he survived, but as katy cairos explains, he's still not back to work. >> reporter: it's a routine traffic stop. he's about to get let off with a warning after racing down i-70 west at more than 80 miles an hour. >> i do see a lot of reckless driving. >> reporter: as they work to protect the road, they are not always lucky. trooper avila's stop started the same way, but ended in a horrific accident. a tractor trailer driving too close to the shoulder slammed the police car, then hit the state trooper. >> i guess i heard the rumble strip just before the vehicle came across or came towards me.
